Black & White Photography at Bangkok Exhibition | The Revival Atelier

There are messages that arrive on an ordinary Sunday morning and change the entire week.

This one arrived on 28 June 2026. GuruShots informed me that my photograph had been selected for the international exhibition "Best of Black & White", presented at 1010 Art Space at The Standard X Hotel in Bangkok, Thailand.

I stay with that sentence longer than usual.

Why black and white photography

I could say it has always fascinated me — and that would be true. But it's too easy an answer.

More precisely: black and white is the language I reach for when I want to say something that matters. When colours become noise — when the shade of a sky, the tone of a curtain, the hue of skin begin to compete for the viewer's attention with what is actually in the photograph — monochrome clears the frame. What remains is form. Light. The person.

In the fine art portrait photography I make at The Revival Atelier, this is exactly the starting point. I don't ask "how do you want to look?" I ask "what do you want to remain of you?"

Black and white answers that question honestly.

What GuruShots is, and why this recognition matters to me

GuruShots is one of the world's largest photography platforms — a community of millions of photographers competing in themed challenges judged by fellow participants. What wins is not a marketing campaign, not a follower count — what wins is the photograph.

The "Best of Black & White" challenge is among the most competitive in that community. Submissions come from photographers across the world, at every level. Selection for the digital exhibition at 1010 Art Space in Bangkok is a distinction awarded by an algorithm that measures one thing: how powerfully your photograph stops a stranger's gaze.

That suits me. Not an expert jury, not an institution — human attention. The most honest judge in photography.

1010 Art Space — a gallery that is not an accidental venue

1010 Art Space is located within The Standard X Hotel in Bangkok — one of the more significant boutique hotel destinations in South-East Asia, which has from its inception woven together design, contemporary art, and the guest experience. The gallery is integral to the place, not an afterthought in the lobby.

My photograph — a black and white portrait in fine art aesthetic — will be shown in that context. In a city that is itself a collision of tradition and modernity. Among work by photographers from across the world.

That is appropriate company.

What this means for The Revival Atelier

I am based in Warsaw. I photograph in Poland and abroad. For eight years I have worked with women who want to see themselves differently — not through the filter of expectation, but through the lens of art.

Each international recognition — like the previous exhibitions at Bridgeport Art Center in Chicago and Coningsby Gallery in London — confirms for me that what I do in the studio carries value beyond the studio. That the aesthetic I have committed to — minimalism, chiaroscuro, timelessness — is recognised and valued regardless of geography.

And for my clients: it is evidence that a portrait made at The Revival Atelier belongs to the same aesthetic tradition honoured by galleries on three continents.

A few words about the photograph itself

The photograph selected comes from my series of black and white portraits made in the spirit of editorial fine art.

A single figure. Natural light sculpting the face from one side. Shadow that builds dimension and mood simultaneously. No props, no background narrating its own story. Only the person — and the question carried in that gaze.

I won't say more. The photograph speaks for itself.

Black and white photography in 2026 — why this is not "classic for the sake of classic"

We live in a visual environment saturated with colour, saturation, and filter. Instagram Reels, TikTok, AI-generated imagery — everything competes for attention through hue.

And that is precisely why black and white portrait photography is becoming an increasingly considered, even luxurious choice. Not archaic — luxurious. These are photographs that demand more from the viewer and more from the photographer. There is no colour to conceal poor lighting. No background to draw attention away from weak composition. Monochromatic fine art photography is unforgiving of craft.

That is exactly what I value in it.
