My Black & White Photo Is Going to a Chicago Exhibition — Bridgeport Art Center

In short: One of my photographs was selected for digital display at the international Very Best of Black & White exhibition at Bridgeport Art Center (3rd Floor Gallery) in Chicago, USA. The opening night takes place on Friday 17 July, 7–10 pm.

Black and white is, to me, the purest form of photography — with colour gone, all that remains is light, contrast and form. So I am especially glad to share that my black & white photograph will be shown at a Chicago exhibition, in one of the city’s best-known art centres.

What exactly happened

My work was selected for digital display as part of the Very Best of Black & White exhibition — an international showcase devoted to monochrome photography, featuring photographers from many countries, chosen from thousands of entries.

The selected frame is a fine-art study in clean, high-contrast black and white. A low camera angle, dramatic directional sunlight and a cloud-filled sky build a monumental, almost sculptural mood. I wanted body, light and landscape to come together as a single coherent form — a story about strength and lightness at once.

Bridgeport Art Center — the venue

Bridgeport Art Center (BAC) is a vibrant arts hub in Chicago, set in a historic building at 1200 W. 35th Street. It is home to well over a hundred artists, with three galleries presenting rotating exhibitions throughout the year. My work will be shown in the 3rd Floor Gallery, where GuruShots holds its premium exhibitions — alongside photographers from around the world.

GuruShots — how a photo reaches an exhibition

GuruShots is a global photography platform where creators submit work to themed challenges. The best photos are then selected and shown at GuruShots exhibitions in major cities — from New York and Chicago to London and Stockholm.

The path to an exhibition in brief:

  1. Submit a photo to a themed challenge.
  2. Collect votes and climb the ranking.
  3. Selected works are shown at a real gallery exhibition.

What it means to me

Black and white photography, for me, is a reduction to essence — working with light and form, without the distraction of colour. Showing work at a Chicago gallery confirms that it is worth steadily developing my visual language. It is also another stop on the map — after London, it is time for the USA.
